Description

The Mahraganat Movement has emerged since the early 2000's as the prevailing sound of the Egyptian youth, expressing realities that are often censored in Egyptian popular media and society. In this talk, we explore what defines this new sound (from the inventive production methods to the rawness of the lyrics), the backlash it has faced since its inception, and why its existence within the realm of Egyptian music matters for the future.
